1. Call out the names in the class.

2. Listen to the tape and answer the question Is Ann at school today?

3. Practise reading the dialogue in groups.

4. Act it out in front of the class.

Read and act

1. Play the tape and get the students to guess what it means Is Bill in?

2. Get the students practise the dialogue in pairs.

3. Encourage the students to use their own names and telephone numbers to make similar dialogues.
