1. You mean it looks strange! I’ll tell you something that does sound strange.你是說這看上去奇怪！我要告訴你聽起來確實(shí)奇怪的事。

這兩句話中分別用到了連系動(dòng)詞look（看上去是）和sound（聽起來是）。類似的連系動(dòng)詞還有：smell（聞上去是）,feel（摸起來）, taste（嘗起來）。使用這類連系動(dòng)詞時(shí)，不要用進(jìn)行時(shí)和被動(dòng)語態(tài)。如：

How sweet the music sounds!這音樂聽上去多美！

The water feels cold.水摸起來很涼。

They taste like carrots.它們的味道像胡蘿卜。

另外，第二句中的does用以強(qiáng)調(diào)，表示“確實(shí)”、“的確”等，以加強(qiáng)語氣。如：

He did attend the meeting early then.他當(dāng)時(shí)的確很早就到會(huì)了。

Do come on time.務(wù)必按時(shí)光臨。

I do want to be sure. Do be silent!我確實(shí)想肯定。安靜！

2. In the north, the winters are long and hard, with snow for six months of the year.北方，冬天漫長而嚴(yán)酷，一年有半年的積雪。

hard在此表示“嚴(yán)酷的”、“艱難的”。該詞的另一些形容詞詞義需要弄清楚。如：

堅(jiān)硬的adj.

Skate on hard enough ice.在足夠硬的冰上溜冰。

The snow has frozen hard on the road.路上的雪已經(jīng)凍得很硬了。

困難的，艱難的hard questions難題；a hard assignment.困難的任務(wù)

Is science harder than English?自然科學(xué)比英語難學(xué)嗎?

It takes years of hard work to complete the project.完成這項(xiàng)工程需要多年的艱苦工作。

強(qiáng)有力的；劇烈的

a hard push奮力一推

The forecast says there’s going to be a hard frost tonight.天氣預(yù)報(bào)說今夜有嚴(yán)重霜凍。

嚴(yán)厲的，苛刻的；無情的

a hard master嚴(yán)師；a hard heart鐵石心腸；a hard customer挑剔的顧客

Don't be too hard on the boy.不要對(duì)這個(gè)小男孩太苛刻了。

With表示“具有”、“伴隨”等意思，中文翻譯較為靈活。如：

Do you know the woman with a baby in her arms?你認(rèn)識(shí)抱著娃娃的那位婦女嗎？

China is a country with a long history.中國是一個(gè)歷史悠久的國家。
