Mother's day originated in Greece, the ancient greeks in the day to honor the mother of the gods in Greek mythology Hera. In the 17th century, mother's day spread to England, the British fasting period of the fourth Sunday as mother's day. 現(xiàn)代意義上的母親節(jié)起源于美國。1913年，美國國會(huì)通過了一份議案，將每年5月的'第二個(gè)星期天作為法定的母親節(jié)。母親節(jié)從此流傳開來!
母親節(jié)創(chuàng)立后，得到了全世界各國人民的支持，已經(jīng)成了一個(gè)名副其實(shí)的國際性節(jié)日。按慣例，“國際母親節(jié)”被定在每年的5月11日舉行。雖然，有一些國家是在一年中不同的時(shí)節(jié)慶祝屬于他們的母親節(jié)，然而，包括我國在內(nèi)的多數(shù)國家，如丹麥、芬蘭、意大利、土耳其、澳大利亞和比利時(shí)等等，都是在5月的第二個(gè)星期日慶祝母親節(jié)的。
